Most women typically take one pill daily for 21 days, followed by a 4 or 7-day break before starting the next pack. During this break, a withdrawal bleed similar to a period, but not the same, is likely to occur.
Alternatively, Yasmin can be taken in the following ways:
Active Ingredient
Each film-coated tablet contains 0.030 mg ethinylestradiol and 3 mg drospirenone.
Inactive Ingredients
Tablet core: Lactose monohydrate, Maize starch, Pregelatinised maize starch, Povidone K25, Magnesium stearate
Tablet coating: Hypromellose, Macrogol 6000, Talc, Titanium dioxide (E 171), Iron oxide pigment, yellow (E 172)
Common side effects include:
These side effects should subside within three months. If they persist or significantly impact you, please contact us through your online patient record.
Additionally, contact us if you experience vaginal bleeding after sex or a significant change in your bleeding pattern that doesn't settle within six weeks.
There are some very rare but serious side effects, such as blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. Ensure your blood pressure is below 140/90 before starting Yasmin and have it checked annually while taking the pill. Maintaining a normal weight with a body mass index (BMI) under 35 can also help reduce the risk of these serious side effects.
For more information on this medication's side effects, please read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your pill.
