Description

Who can use it?

Wegovy is suitable for patients who are:

  • Adults with obesity (BMI over 30)

  • Adults who are overweight (BMI higher than 27) and have weight-related health conditions such as high blood pressure

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy is a weight loss medication designed to help regulate your appetite and reduce cravings.

When combined with a reduced-calorie diet, regular physical activity, and healthy lifestyle habits, it can be highly effective in achieving long-term weight loss.

Wegovy's active ingredient is semaglutide, a synthetic version of the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). This hormone is naturally released from the gut after eating and helps regulate blood sugar levels. It communicates with your brain to signal fullness, reducing appetite and curbing cravings. Additionally, it slows stomach emptying, helping you stay fuller for longer.

Although Wegovy may not work for everyone, it has proven to be highly effective for many in developing consistent eating habits and achieving a healthy weight. it wordks in several ways:

  • Regulate appetide

Wegovy mimics a naturally occurring hormone that affects the parts of your brain responsible for controlling appetite.

  • Helps you feel fuller

It slows digestion, helping you feel fuller and more satisfied between meals.

  • Supports healthy eating

Reduced cravings can support the development of a consistent eating routine, promoting long-term healthy habits.

Directions

How to Use Your Wegovy Pen:

  1. Verify that the name and dose of your Wegovy pen match your prescription.
  2. Remove the pen cap and ensure the liquid inside is clear and colorless.
  3. Always use a new needle for each weekly dose.
  4. Attach and secure the needle to the pen.
  5. Remove both the outer and inner needle caps and perform a flow check according to the instructions in the leaflet (only necessary the first time you use the pen).
  6. Set the correct dose by turning the dose selector until the right dose is displayed.
  7. Select your injection site, such as the thigh or abdomen.
  8. Insert the needle straight into the skin at a 90-degree angle, as shown in the diagram from the patient leaflet. Ensure you can see the dose counter.
  9. Once the injection is complete, carefully replace the outer needle cap and remove the needle.
  10. Dispose of the needle and cap together in a sharps bin.
  11. If your pen still has remaining doses, place the cap back on and store it safely for future use.

Wegovy is taken once weekly at the same time every week. The normal dose is 2.4mg once weekly but you start from the lowest (0.25mg) and gradually work up over the next few months. This helps your body get used to it slowly and reduces the risk of side effects.
