Description

  • Ferrous sulfate is a type of iron salt commonly used as a dietary supplement to treat and prevent iron deficiency.
  • While iron deficiency can affect anyone, certain groups are at higher risk, including pregnant women, infants, young children, vegans, vegetarians, and individuals with specific medical conditions.
  • Taking ferrous sulfate supplements helps maintain normal iron levels, preventing iron deficiency and alleviating symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and weakened immunity.
  • Iron is a crucial mineral involved in forming red blood cells, transporting and storing oxygen, developing the nervous system, and supporting basic cell functions.

Warnings

Ferrous Sulphate is not recommended for children under 12 years old.

 If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Ferrous Sulphate tablets may be less effective if taken alongside certain foods, including tea, coffee, eggs, milk or dairy products, wholegrain bread, cereals, or any high-fiber foods. To ensure the best absorption, take your tablets at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after consuming these foods.

Do not take Ferrous Sulphate Tablets if you:

  • Have an intestinal blockage.
  • Have been diagnosed with a bowel condition known as diverticular disease.
  • Have a rare inherited condition affecting how your blood cells use iron, such as haemochromatosis or haemosiderosis.
  • Are receiving regular blood transfusions.
  • Are already being treated with iron injections.
  • Are currently taking other medications that contain iron.

Directions

Take One tablet Daily

The absorption may be increased if taken with meat or products containing Vitamin C

Ingredients

Active ingredient:

Each tablet provides 200mg of Ferrous Sulphate BP which approximates to 64mg of Iron

Other ingredients:

Magnesium stearate, Maize Starch,Sucrose, Ponceau 4R Colour, Croscarrmellose Sodium, lactose,  granules containing lactose, maize starch, Polyethylene Glycol, Talc.

Side Effects

  • Although iron preparations are best absorbed on an empty stomach, they may be taken after food to reduce gastrointestinal side-effects.
  • Large doses may produce gastro-intestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhoea.
  • Constipation may be caused by continual administration, particularly in older patients, and may lead to faecal impaction.
  • Iron supplementation may cause the blackening of stool.
  • Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported. These range from rashes, sometimes severe, to anaphylaxis
