Description

Dioralyte is used to replace essential body fluids and salts lost during acute diarrhea in infants, children, and adults. Early use is crucial to prevent dehydration, especially in young children and the elderly.

Warnings

-Infants under the age of 2 years with diarrhoea should be seen by a physician as soon as possible

-Store in the original package to protect from moisture

-Store below 25°C

-Keep out of the reach and sight of children

-If diarrhoea has not improved within 24-48 hours consult your doctor

-If you have intestinal obstruction, diabetes, kidney or liver failure, or are on a low potassium or sodium diet, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Dioralyte.

-Each sachet should be dissolved in 200ml (approximately 7fl oz) of drinking water. Use fresh drinking water for adults and children. For infants, and when drinking water is unavailable, freshly boiled and cooled water should be used. Prepare the solution immediately before use and store it for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Any solution left an hour after preparation should be discarded. Do not boil the solution itself.

-The primary treatment for diarrhea involves replacing lost fluids and electrolytes and maintaining sufficient fluid intake to compensate for fluid loss from stools. The amount of reconstituted Dioralyte given should be adjusted based on the patient's age, weight, and the severity of the condition.

--Severe dehydration may require initial correction with intravenous fluids, followed by oral maintenance if necessary. Seek medical advice if fluid loss from diarrhea is excessive.

-Dioralyte should not be used for self-treatment by patients:

  • with chronic or persistent diarrhea.
  • with liver or kidney disease.
  • with diabetes.
  • on low potassium or sodium diets.
  • with an intestinal obstruction.

The use of Dioralyte in patients with these conditions should be supervised by a physician.

If nausea and vomiting are present with the diarrhoea, small but frequent amounts should be drunk at first.

For any extra information, please contact your healthcare provider or contact us.
