Dukoral® is an inactivated oral vaccine that is mixed with water and drank.
You cannot receive the vaccine if you have had an allergic reaction to it or any of its components in the past, or if you are currently experiencing an acute gastrointestinal illness or fever.
You should complete the vaccine course at least one week before your travel.
This means you need to receive your first dose at least two weeks before you leave.
Please note that the timing for vaccines for children under 6 may be different.
In the UK, cholera vaccination is generally not recommended for most travellers. It is only advised for those who are at higher risk, including:
• Aid workers.
• People travelling to areas experiencing cholera outbreaks with limited access to safe water and medical care.
• Individuals who may benefit from vaccination due to their specific circumstances, even if they don't fall into the above categories but are still considered at higher risk.
