What is Scabies?
Scabies is caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, which is barely visible to the naked eye. These microscopic parasites burrow into the upper layers of the skin, where they lay eggs and cause an intense, persistent itch.

  3. Reapplication: A second application may be necessary after 7 days to ensure complete eradication of the infestation.
  4. Safety: Permethrin 5% Cream is generally safe for adults, pregnant women, and children over 2 months old

While medication is crucial for treating scabies, certain lifestyle measures can help manage the condition and prevent reinfestation:

  1. Thorough Cleaning
      On the first day of treatment:
    1. Wash all bedding, clothing, and towels used in the past 3 days in hot water (60°C or higher) and dry on high heat.
    2. Vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture thoroughly.
    3. Seal items that can’t be washed in plastic bags for at least 72 hours.
  2. Isolation and Treatment of Close Contacts
    • Inform all close contacts of your diagnosis.

    • Avoid close physical contact until treatment is complete.
  3. Personal Hygiene
    • Keep fingernails short and clean to reduce the risk of secondary bacterial infections from scratching.

    • Use over-the-counter antihistamines or calamine lotion to relieve itching.
