Imigran nasal spray is an effective prescription medication for treating migraine attacks with or without aura. It contains the active ingredient sumatriptan, which belongs to a class of drugs called triptans. Imigran nasal spray works by narrowing blood vessels in the brain and blocking pain signals, providing quick relief from migraine symptoms like headache, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound.
The nasal spray formulation allows for rapid absorption through the nasal lining, making it ideal for patients who experience nausea or vomiting during migraines. Imigran nasal spray is available in 10mg and 20mg strengths, with the recommended adult dose being 20mg administered into one nostril. It can provide relief in as little as 15 minutes, with maximum effects typically seen within 2 hours.
Imigran nasal spray should only be used to treat acute migraine attacks and is not intended for preventive use. It's suitable for adults aged 18 and over, as well as adolescents aged 12-17 under specialist recommendation.

Like all medications, Imigran Nasal Spray can cause side effects, though not everyone will experience them. Some symptoms may also be due to the migraine itself.
Common side effects include pain, heaviness, pressure, or tightness in the chest, throat, or other areas of the body, as well as unusual sensations like numbness, tingling, warmth, or cold. While these effects may feel intense, they usually pass quickly. Some individuals may also experience nausea, dry mouth, and drowsiness, which are generally mild and tend to resolve on their own.
