Naratriptan works by targeting specific serotonin receptors in the brain, particularly the 5-HT_1B and 5-HT_1D subtypes. By binding to these receptors, naratriptan causes the constriction of dilated blood vessels in the brain, a key factor in migraine attacks. It also helps to reduce the release of inflammatory substances that contribute to migraine symptoms. This combined action effectively alleviates the headache and associated symptoms of a migraine.
Naratriptan may not be suitable for everyone. You should avoid using it if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Additionally, inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
During pregnancy, Naratriptan should only be used if your doctor determines that the benefits outweigh the risks.
It is not known whether Naratriptan passes into breast milk, so consult your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding.
This medication can cause drowsiness, so use it with caution if consuming alcohol or other drugs. Avoid driving or operating machinery while taking Naratriptan. Be sure to read the patient information leaflet for detailed warnings and instructions.
One tablet to be taken, followed by ONE tablet after at leasts 4 hours if required. To be taken only if migraine recurs.

When should I take Naratriptan?
Naratriptan is most effective when taken at the onset of the headache phase of a migraine. It should not be used as a preventive measure for migraines. If you find that your symptoms do not improve after taking naratriptan, do not take an additional dose. For optimal results, use naratriptan as directed at the first sign of a migraine headache.
