Description

What is penicillin used for?

Penicillin is a versatile antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory infections like sore throat and pneumonia, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. Pharmacy Advance offers penicillin treatment for patients with group A streptococcal throat infections.

How does penicillin work?

Penicillin is a type of beta-lactam antibiotic. It functions by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, a crucial component for bacterial survival. By interfering with this process, penicillin weakens the bacterial structure, leading to its eventual rupture and death. This mechanism of action makes penicillin highly effective against a range of bacterial infections.
