Microgynon primarily functions by preventing ovulation, thanks to its two active ingredients, which are synthetic versions of estrogen and progesterone (ethinylestradiol 30 mcg and levonorgestrel 150 mcg).
Additionally, it hinders sperm from reaching any eggs and thins the womb lining, making it less likely for a fertilized egg to implant.
Missing any pills or experiencing diarrhea or vomiting can reduce the effectiveness of Microgynon. Similarly, taking the emergency contraceptive pill may impact how well Microgynon works.
For any extra information, please contact your healthcare provider or contact us.
Microgynon 30 comes in packs of 21 pills. You should take one pill at the same time each day for 21 days until the pack is finished. You then take a break for seven days, during which time you may experience a withdrawal bleed similar to a period – typically 2-3 days after stopping.
Regardless of the timing of your withdrawal bleed, after the seven-day break start your next pack of 21 pills. So if you finished one pack of Microgynon on a Sunday, you’d start the next pack a week later on Monday.
